Workers of Hepco construction company in protest to unpaid wages

Iran, May 16, 2018 - The workers of Hepco construction company in Arak, Markazi province, have been on strike for several days, protesting to unpaid wages and the reduction of retirement bonuses.

On Sunday, during the protests, one of the workers tried to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge in protest to the lack of response from the company’s owners. He was saved by his colleagues at the last minute.
Tensions between the workers of Hepco and the company’s management have been ongoing for months over unpaid wages and uncertainties surrounding the company’s future.
In the past years, after Hepco’s ownership was privatized, the workers of the company have been deprived of their salaries on several occasions.
In the past months, the protests have increased and are ongoing on a daily basis.
