.Paris Exhibition & Conference, Justice for Victims of 1988 Massacre in Iran

Paris Exhibition & Conference, Justice for Victims of 1988 Massacre in Iran

An exhibition and a conference were held today at the 5th arrondissement of Paris, focusing on the “massacre of thousands of political prisoners in 1988 in Iran – Right of families of the victims to learn the truth.”
Invited by Mayor Florence Berthout, the conference was co-sponsored by the Committee to Support Human Rights in Iran and the Committee of French Mayors for A Democratic Iran. A number of political personalities, lawyers and a large number of elected representatives of France participated in the conference and delivered their speeches, calling on the UN, world governments and relevant judicial authorities to show appropriate reaction to this “crime against humanity” which had been forgotten for years, but has been recently brought up in Iran and on the international level.
Many speakers including former Algerian Prime Minister Sid Ahmed Ghozali, former Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, former Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, Rama Yade, Ingrid Betancourt, Attorney William Bourdon, expert jurist Tahar Boumedra, a former senior UN official, called for the establishment of an international commission of inquiry into the extrajudicial executions of 30,000 political prisoners in the summer of 1988, and following month, following a fatwa by Khomeini, founder of the ruling theocracy in Iran.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, sent a video message to the conference, in which she declared, “The international community’s appeasement of the Iranian regime and the immunity enjoyed by its officials over some 40 years has emboldened these criminals. The mullahs who carried out the massacre in 1988, now hold world record in per capita executions.”
Mothers of some of the victims of this crime who are still searching for the bodies of their loved ones, as well as representatives of Iran’s young generation who demand accountability of the Iranian regime’s officials on these crimes, also gave their testimonies in this conference.
Bernard Kouchner recalled that Khomeini ordered the death of 30,000 political prisoners within a few months, which he described as ‘climax of barbarism’. He condemned the fact that a member of the death commission is Rouhani’s justice minister. The former foreign minister, reiterated that it is time to ask all levels to investigate this massacre.
Ingrida Betancourt noted that the economic benefits of the nuclear deal are taken by the Revolutionary Guards. The IRGC has misused this opportunity for its aggressions in the region. Ingrid Betancourt stated that, the separation of the nuclear issue from human rights issue has not been but a trap. The IRGC interferes in Syria and Iraq and finances terrorists like Hezbollah. The policy of appeasement gave a blank check to Iran to attack its neighbors and exploit the people of Iran. She strongly criticized the position of Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, saying that Europe has made a mistake and has no right to betray itself by turning a blind eye to the sufferings of the Iranian people.
Rama Yade demanded an international investigation into the 1988 massacre, and recalled that the Iranian judiciary, whose minister had a direct role in the massacre, is not competent to investigate this crime. She also criticized the nuclear deal with Iran, saying that the deal served as a permit for the regime so long as repression in Iran and war and terrorism pursued by the regime continue. She stressed that if the Iranian regime refuses to end its missile program and withdraw its militias from Syria, then we should to re-enforce the sanctions.
William Bourdon pointed out that the 1988 massacre in Iran is the largest massacre of political prisoners since World War II. We must put an end to this impunity of the perpetrators of the massacre. Over the past 30 years, there have been lots of massacres in Iran. It is essential to recognize the executioners of Tehran a criminals because they are today bound to the executioners of Damascus and have formed an ignoble cult of criminals.
The co-chair of the Committee of Mayors of France for a Democratic Iran, Jean François Legaret (mayor of the 1st District of Paris) announced the support for of the conference’s objectives by a few thousand mayors and members of city council, who had signed a declaration after the recent Mayor's Congress regarding the need for investigation into the 1988 massacre and human rights in Iran.

A large number of documents, photos, film footages, handcraft of martyred prisoners and other artwork were put on exhibition on the sideline of this conference. A versatile combination of people including a large number of students of international law participated in the conference.
The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, made reference to this crime in his November 2017 report, saying that the UN had received many complaints from families of the victims.
Also, Ms. Asma Jahangir, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, reiterated in her recent report to the General Assembly on October 25 that the families of the victims have a right to remedy, reparation, and the right to know about the truth of these events and the fate of the victims without risking reprisal.

Iran: Call to Condemn Travel Ban on Former Tehran U. Dean, Depriving Him of Medical Care

inhumane measure, Iranian regime is imposing a travel ban on Dr. Mohammad Malaki, the 84-year old former Tehran University dean who’s in need of medical care. As a result, Malaki’s life is in grave danger as he struggles with numerous difficult illnesses.
Malaki, who has spent years in Iran’s medieval prisons, must be transferred to Europe for medical attention, according to physicians. Yet Iran’s rulers have imposed this travel ban and seek to make him suffer due to his firm stance against the mullahs’ regime and refusing to succumb to their demands.
The Iranian Resistance calls on all human rights entities and advocates, especially the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Special Rapporteur of the human rights situation in Iran, and medical unions across the globe to strongly condemn the Iranian regime for banning Malaki from exiting the country and depriving him of medical attention. Urgent action is needed to lift this ban.
Dr. Malaki, a political prisoner during the Shah’s rule prior to Iran’s February 1979 revolution, was arrested in 1981 and spent five years behind bars. He was detained again in 2000 and 2009, and placed under intense pressures.
“[Iranian Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei is responsible for all these hardships, these executions, these killings… he cannot leave himself out and claim he was not informed… time and again he has indicated being knowledgeable of the details and events taking place across the country. He is definitely informed,” Malaki said in November 2016.
In May he said the following about Iran’s farce presidential election:
“They have described this charade as an election… who are the (candidates)? One of them is Mr. Raisi, the famous executioner, and the other is Mr. Rouhani, the famous liar… I am informed of Rouhani’s pledges. To what extent will he lie to the people? ... This is not an election… they say come and vote for these two people. One, they say, supports Khamenei and the other does not. All the while both support the leader because if not, they would not be authorized to even take part in the election nor surpass the Guardian Council filter.”
In August he issued a statement marking the 1988 massacre of political prisoners.
“I warn the mullahs’ senior officials that very soon you will face the same destiny of all despots. One day you will pay the price of spilling the blood of innocent people. One day you, too, will be held accountable for all your lies, thefts and crimes. Rest assured that the Iranian people’s justice movement will one day place you before a just prosecution,” he said.

Are Democrats regretting the Iran nuclear deal?

The Hill
By Andrew Lappin
Tuesday, 28 November 2017
In view of Iran’s flagrant aggression, it seems like some Democrats are beginning to perceive the liability of failing to talk tough.
In a strongly worded letter dated Nov. 14, 2017, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), along with 43 bipartisan co-signers, urged Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to take immediate action to prevent Iran from becoming permanently entrenched in Syria by way of its proxy Hezbollah.
Could it be that the congressman has come to see that the Iran nuclear deal, vigorously embraced by his Democratic colleagues in 2015, instead of making the world a safer place, has in fact had the exact opposite effect? Because the mullahs have denied inspectors access to military installations, it is not even possible to appraise the extent of Iran’s compliance.
But the compliance loophole has become secondary. The agreement removed economic sanctions that had been successfully suffocating Iran and thwarting its hegemonic capability. With the lifting of the sanctions, Iran was thrown a lifeline. Hardware like those 150,000 missiles that Hezbollah has pointed at Israel, that Schneider now bemoans, actually cost money!
In 2016, with the economic chokehold removed for just a single year, Iran’s economy of $1.45 trillion grew at the coveted rate of 6.5 percent. That’s just one year, and it fails to take into account the explosion of activity that will result from the plethora of capital goods that will now flow freely into Iran. Eighty percent of Iran’s exports are oil-related and 50-60 percent of government expenditure is derived from oil revenues. Iran forecasts that the lifting of sanctions will enable a doubling of oil revenue.
The age of “credible posturing” has expired. With Hezbollah so comfortably embedded from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea, exactly how do Schneider and his colleagues envision convincing Hezbollah to fold up its tents?
Rather, isn’t it far more likely that those congressmen who in 2015 failed to comprehend the impact of infusing a sworn enemy with billions in surplus cash, will again fail to acknowledge the necessity for counterforce?
The recent opposition, along party lines, to the idea of reinstituting sanctions on Iran is discouraging testament to feckless dereliction of duty. The menacing specter of a nuclear Iran now hangs ominously over our heads as Iran, undeterred by credible military constraint, puts the finishing touches on a regional bridgehead that was begun during the Lebanese civil war in 1976 and upon completion will span from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea.
The incalculable strategic shift that will result from this grand territorial opening, in conjunction with Iran’s nuclear capability, is stunning. As all of this unfolds before us, one must question how it is that the strategic imperative of rebuilding a credible deterrent capability could once again be subordinated to political gamesmanship. If ever voters – especially those concerned for Israel’s security – were inclined to make a case for willful ignorance, this would be it.

.Iran: Woman MP admits violence against women is pervasive

Women's News

“Currently domestic violenceagainst women is pervasive in the society but few people pay attention to it,” said Parvaneh Salahshouri, head of the women’s faction in the Iranian parliament on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
“Domestic violence is not clearly seen in society because unfortunately a woman who is subjected to such violence, rarely speaks out about it. This is why many women suffer from it,” she added.
The regime’s official went on without providing any statistics, “Clearly, we see many forms of violence against women in society. Sometimes, we see them but pay no attention but sometimes we are not even able to realize them which is much more agonizing.”
“The failure to deploy women’s force in the positions that they do deserve is itself a kind of violence against women,” she pointed out.
Shedding light on the injustice institutionalized in the regime’s penal code against women, she admitted, “If a woman makes a little mistake, it would cause great problems for her, subjecting her to violence. However, when a man makes a huge mistake there is no violence against them.”
She also acknowledged that the VAW bill widely advertised by the regime had not yet found its way to the mullahs’ parliament. (The state-run IRNA news agency – November 25, 2017)

.Iran: Golrokh Iraee calls for justice for victims of 1980s

Women's News

Prisoner of conscience Golrokh Iraee sent an open letter from Evin Prison where she is detained calling for justice for the perpetrators of the 1980s massacres in Iran. The letter comes in the wake of the acceptance by the UN working group on enforced or involuntary disappearances of the complaint filed by political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared demanding information about the fate of her siblings executed during the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988. In parts of her letter, Ms. Iraee writes:
Those who sought power turned their backs on the aspirations of the children of this land… In response to a yes-or-no response, they sent thousands to the firing squads and gallows. Their lifeless bodies were buried en masse in a bid to wipe their memory from the minds of the nation…

Many worried in these years about those who had been unjustly executed, but what is necessary is the complaints by their families as private plaintiffs. Like Maryam (Akbari Monfared), they should follow up directly the cases of their relatives. Maryam is not alone. She represents thousands of people who have lost members of their families.
Our failure to react and follow up these crimes will lead to more horrible crimes.
We should help echo their voice louder. A voice that has been resonating over the sky of this country for years. We should announce that we seek justice for the bloody crimes of the 1980s.
