Iran’s labor movement should unite against the regime, says political prisoner
30 April 2018-- Payam Shakiba, a political prisoner in Gohardasht Prison of Karaj, west of Tehran in Iran, wrote the following message marking International Labor Day.
“In this time period and following the 2017/2018 uprising, and considering the explosive status of our society, the Iranian regime lacks the ability to respond to any of the numerous crises. This regime is literally in a limbo and facing an increasing number of dilemmas with each passing day. Rifts and endless divides, redemption amongst ranks and files, and widespread corruption practiced by literally all individuals linked to the regime, all coupled with the end of the appeasement policy and international concessions that are now leading to further isolation for the Iranian regime in the region, the Islamic World and the world over, are depriving Tehran of even the slightest legitimacy for inside Iran or abroad.
“These developments call for a more organized effort among all walks of life in the labor community. Serious political demands must be raised before this regime.
“Organizing Iran’s labor community and associating with others from various branches of our society, along with evicting the regime’s factions and their schemes, should evolve into political demands and standing shoulder to shoulder with the Iranian people’s nationwide movement against a regime that is very weak and ill. This will most definitely render a new order and a better future for Iran’s hard-working labor community.”
