Iranian regime’s Fars news agency on Kazerun protests

Iranian regime’s Fars news agency on Kazerun protests

Analysis by PMOI/MEK

May 18, 2018 - The Fars news agency, a state-run media outlet known for its affiliations with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), published a piece on Thursday vividly describing the Iranian regime’s deep concerns over the recent developments in Kazerun, southern Iran.
“All of a sudden a police station was set ablaze… While thousands of people have been holding protests in Kazerun since late March, they were all peaceful in nature… Unfortunately, however, some are giving wrong addresses to the (people) and seek to create unrest in this city for bogus reasons …
“All of a sudden [on Wednesday morning], in a very suspicious turn of events, various calls were exchanged in Telegram (messaging app) groups… Previous rallies were held in the city’s main squares. In these rallies, however, people were asked to gather outside a police station… The entire issue becomes even more suspicious when the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) issues a call for protests and writes: ‘We call on all our compatriots in Kazerun and neighboring cities to rush to the support of those arrested…’
“This time around radicalized slogans are heard that have nothing to do with the plan that intended to divide the city, and the protests held by these very small number of people quickly turned violent… It reached a point where even the police intelligence building was set on fire very quickly after the rally began …”
Two significant conclusions can be reached from these remarks, coming from an outlet linked to the IRGC, the very entity leading the Iranian regime’s domestic crackdown.
  1. The Iranian people’s protests are ongoing, despite claims otherwise, and all disputes quickly gain a political nature, leading to major anti-regime demonstrations.
  2. The Iranian regime is signaling the entity, being the PMOI/MEK, it fears most and how this organization, being the main Iranian opposition group with a vast network inside Iran, is behind all major protests across the country.
