Iran: Farmers in Isfahan rally, demand river water shares

Reported by PMOI/MEK

Iran, Dec. 30, 2018 - Farmers in the town of Varzaneh in Isfahan Province, central Iran, are continuing their rally on Sunday, saying they are even willing to risk their lives to have their demands fulfilled. These protests have continued for months now.

Farmers in this area of Iran, like many other towns and cities across the country, are protesting the policies implemented by Iranian regime authorities. Rivers throughout Iran are rerouted and river flows obstructed to provide for projects mainly pursued by the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and other initiatives that profit only those linked to Iranian regime authorities, or considered insiders.

Iran, Nov. 25, 2018 - On Sunday, the farmers of Gharneh, East Isfahan, gathered in front of the Yazd water pumping station in protest to the government’s mismanagement of water sources. In the past years, the Iranian regime’s corrupt policies has cut off adequate access to irrigation water, causing much damage to the farmers of Isfahan.

The IRGC, which controls a large part of the country’s economy, has been using the province’s water sources for its own benefit. The building of dams and water channels, which are serving the needs of IRGC-run companies, are threatening to destroy the farming lands of Isfahan.

In the past year, the farmers of Isfahan have protested for months and on several occasions, demanding their right to water. As the regime has failed to respond to the demands of the farmers, they decided to take matters in their own hands. Sunday’s protest was taking place in front of one of the IRGC-run water pumping stations, which channels Isfahan’s waters to the neighboring Yazd province to serve the needs of different regime-affiliated companies.

The protesters threatened to destroy the station if the government does not take concrete measures to fulfill their demands. The farmers had brought along their front loaders and machinery.
At noon, still having received no response, the farmers proceeded with destroying the pipeline that channels the station’s water to Yazd. Security forces subsequently attacked the farmers.

East Isfahan is home to more than 300,000 people, most of whom are farmers. In the past years, drought and mismanagement of water by the government has caused a real threat to their livelihoods. The farmers have time and again protested to the transfer of the province’s water to Yazd.
Isfahan is not the only province where water protests are ongoing. In recent months, similar protests have taken place in Khuzestan and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province. Regime officials have promised to respond to the demands of the farmers, but have yet to fulfill their promises.

UNDERSTANDING THE YEAR OF UNREST IN IRAN

UNDERSTANDING THE YEAR OF UNREST IN IRAN

By INU Staff
INU- As protests raged throughout Iran at this time last year, with demonstrators displaying their anger over unemployment, economic hardship, laws mandating the wearing of the hijab, and their government’s foreign policy, the world watched the people of Iran voice their desire for regime change.
Although the protests are no longer breaking news in the West, they continue. Ilan Berman, Vice President of the American Foreign Policy Council, writes, “Although regime officials have renewed their calls for a ‘resistance economy’ in the face of reinvigorated sanctions on the part of the United States, the Islamic Republic shows no sign of rethinking its extensive (and costly) foreign-policy priorities, which include helping to keep Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in power and providing military support for Yemen’s Houthi rebels.”
Renewed economic pressure on Iran is the centerpiece of Washington’s regional policy. The White House seeks to compel Iran’s leadership with reimposed American sanctions, and is pushing Europe and Asia to reduce their trade with Tehran, as well.
The Islamic Republic’s spiral into economic crisis fuels its peoples’ anger, and calls for revolution increase. Therefore, the current protests are an extremely potent force for creating meaningful change within the Islamic Republic. So far, Iran’s leaders have been able to contain the ongoing protests through widespread arrests, pervasive censorship, and extensive repression. Their efforts are assisted by the absence of clear leadership or an organized agenda for action among the protesters themselves.
However, those who do not fully recognize the significance of the initial uprising may not know much about the major driving forces behind that unrest. Chief among these is the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK/PMOI), a pro-democracy opposition group that has been at the head of calls for regime change since the earliest days of the Islamic Republic.
When the nationwide uprising was at its peak, the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei actually delivered a speech in which he specifically credited the MEK with planning and organizing the anti-government demonstrations.
Despite the regime’s efforts to simultaneously downplay and demonize the Iranian Opposition, the power and influence of the MEK has continued to grow, both inside Iran and throughout the world. When the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, Maryam Rajavi, praised the initial protests and called for a “year full of uprisings.” The Iranian public immediately responded with resurgent demonstrations, and the regime has struggled to quell them ever since.
In fact, US President Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, addressed a rally in Paris held by the the MEK along with the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), an umbrella coalition. “We are now realistically being able to see an end to the regime in Iran,” Giuliani told a crowd of about 4,000. “The mullahs must go, the ayatollah must go, and they must be replaced by a democratic government which Madam Rajavi represents,” Giuliani said. “Freedom is right around the corner … Next year I want to have this convention in Tehran!”

IRAN STAGES TERRORIST OPERATIONS AGAINST THE OPPOSITION IN THE US AND EU

IRAN STAGES TERRORIST OPERATIONS AGAINST THE OPPOSITION IN THE US AND EU

By INU Staff
INU- This week the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, expelled the Iranian ambassador and another diplomat for plotting “terrorist attacks” said Secretary of State Pompeo, who commended Mr. Rama. As well, President Trump thanked Mr. Rama for “steadfast efforts to stand up to Iran and to counter its destabilizing activities and efforts to silence dissidents around the globe.”
Members of the Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) have made their home in the Albanian capital of Tirana under UN supervision in 2016, after leaving Iraq. Because of this, the regime in Iran is prepared to take risks. In fact, the regime appointed a new ambassador, who is believed to be a member of the Intelligence Ministry (MOIS). It is also believed that a special section within the embassy was created to organize operations against the MEK.
Senior regime officials admit that the MEK has successfully led daily anti-regime protests in the country. The regime must respond to persistent dissidents across the world.
Two Iranians were arrested in Tirana on March 22nd, and charged with plotting a terrorist attack against thousands of MEK members at their Iranian New Year
celebration.
Then, on October 10th, Belgium charged an Iranian diplomat and three other individuals with planning to bomb the grand gathering of the Iranian opposition coalition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), in France last June. According to France’s Foreign Ministry, there is no doubt the MOIS was behind the plot. They froze the assets of Tehran’s intelligence services and two of the Iranian nationals, including the diplomat waiting prosecution in Belgium.
In response, the regime has launched a campaign against the MEK. A wave of false news against the MEK has recently been spread in the Guardian, Al Jazeera, MSNBC and Channel 4 in what appears to be an organized attempt to exploit respected news outlets.
The EU’s failed appeasement policy towards Iran is being blamed for this increase of terrorist attacks by Iran’s regime against dissidents and opposition groups in Europe by members of Iranian communities in Europe. They say that the current EU Foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and her colleagues are responsible for this emerging threat to EU’s security.
The former Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Patrick Kennedy, told and international conference last week, “today response to Iran’s terrorist operations has been weak and inappropriate to emerging threats.” He said that the regime’s targeting of the organized resistance movement demonstrates its fear of the NCRI coalition.
Secretary of State Pompeo tweeted, “European nations have thwarted three Iranian plots this year.” He also called on the international community to sanction the regime for terrorist activities. Designating the entire Revolutionary Guards and the MOIS as Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) is what the Iranian people want, as well.
